Where we start

Hi, I’m Jess

I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) working online with adults across Ontario. In a world that rewards constant productivity and makes it look like everyone else has it figured out, accepting yourself as you are right now can feel impossible.

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I change."
Carl Rogers

That's where we start. I'm here to meet you exactly where you are, without judgement and without pressure to have it all figured out.

If even a few of these resonate with you, you are in the right place.

  • You start the day with a plan and end it wondering where the hours went.

  • The task you're dreading is small, and you still can't make yourself start it.

  • Intrusive thoughts arrive uninvited, and the compulsions that quiet them never quiet them for long.

  • You spend more time bracing for what might go wrong.

  • You say yes when you mean no, then replay the conversation for hours.

  • You measure your life against everyone else's highlight reel.

  • Rest feels like something you have to earn.

  • You're tired of just getting through the week and want to feel like yourself again.

You do not have to keep building your life around anxiety. Change is possible, and it starts with being met exactly where you are.

Getting started

How we’ll work together

Starting therapy is its own kind of hurdle. Here's what the first few steps actually look like, and the answers to what most people want to know before they book.

You don't have to decide up front. We start with a free 15-minute video consultation. It is a chance to tell me what is going on, ask whatever you want to ask, and get a feel for how I work. Fit matters more than credentials, and if I am not the right therapist for you, I will happily point you somewhere else.

It means I've completed my schooling and I'm registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and I practise independently. In Ontario, therapists hold the Qualifying designation until they've logged a set number of direct client hours and supervision hours. Until I reach those, I also work with a clinical supervisor, which is really just a second experienced therapist thinking alongside me about the work. It changes nothing on your end: same standards, same confidentiality, same regulated profession.

Mostly getting to know each other. I will ask what brought you here and what you are hoping for, and you can share as much or as little as you want. There is no expectation that you arrive with the whole story, or tell it in order. We will also talk about what you want out of therapy so we have somewhere to start.

Most people start weekly or every other week, which gives the work enough continuity to build on. As things settle, sessions often become less frequent. We decide the rhythm together and adjust it as your needs change.

Many extended health plans cover psychotherapy, though the details vary. It is worth checking whether yours covers a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and whether you need a referral. You will receive an official receipt after each session that you can submit to your provider.
